Hoffman Returned; Gaudin Waived

The Yankees slimmed down the roster even more by returning OF Jamie Hoffman to the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as waiving SP Chad Gaudin.

Hoffman, taken by the Yankees in the Rule V Draft from the Dodgers, was only 3-23 during his stint with the Yankees in Spring Training. He was competing for an outfield job.

Furthermore, the Yankees placed SP Chad Gaudin on waivers. Gaudin, who has struggled over spring training, can either be claimed off of waivers, traded, sent to the minors if he clears, or just be outright released. If sent to the minors he will be owed all of his $2.95 million dollar contract, but if released, the Yankees will only owe him a portion of that. The later option is the mostly likely one to occur.

This move means that Sergio Mitre has all but clinched his role of the team. He makes significantly less that Gaudin and has significantly more potential for the upcoming year.
