As he stated that he would a few days ago, Shelley Duncan officially opted for free agency and became a free agent. Hopefully he can catch on with a team that can give him a chance to be a back-up or something more.
The Yankees brought in this year's John Rodriguez. They signed OF Jon Weber to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. Weber, 31, hit .302/.382/.497 with Tampa's Triple-A affiliate. He has never been in the big leagues. But considering these numbers, it looks like he could be a darkhorse candidate to win a spot on the team.
The Yankees also added 20-year old Dominican OF Eladio Moronta for $570K according to Kiley McDaniel. He had previously been suspended for 1 year for misrepresenting his age as 17.
