Game 91 vs. Tigers

This was just another fantastic all-around game for the Yankees. Joba and the bullpen did a great job and the offense did a good job against one of the best (and hottest) starting pitchers in baseball in Edwin Jackson. The would win the game 2-1.

At the beginning of the game it seemed like today would be a short outing for Joba. But he turned in one of his best outings of the season. He ended up going 6.2 innings, allowing only 3 hits, while walking 3. He also struck out 8, and allowed one run, a homerun to Clete Thomas. In addition, he had a 8-4 groundout-flyout ratio.

Girardi took him out with two outs in 7th because of his fear of him throwing too many pitches. But I don't see how he can develop endurance and arm strength when is never allowed to go that far over 100 pitches (he threw 107 today.) Coke got the final out in 7th with one pitch, Hughes did his thing in the 8th, and Rivera closed it out for his 26th save of the season.

The Yankees got their two runs in the 2-1 win off of two swings. Solo homeruns by A-Rod and Teixeira. A-Rod's was to left-center while Tex's was into the second deck in right field.

This win and sweep of the Tigers puts the Yankees at 54-37 and only one game back of the Red Sox with their lose to Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays this afternoon.

Tomorrow will have the Orioles coming into town with Andy Pettitte taking the mound against Orioles rookie David Hernandez.
