Just two posts down I made an outline of the 40 man roster and the Rule V draft nominees. A few guys that were mentioned that should be drafted or added are Jason Jones, Eric Hacker, and Edwar Gonzalez. If I may do so, I would like to have a counter-argument. Once again bash away in the comments!!!
Jason Jones, Eric Hacker: Me not wanting the Yankees to add them is in no way an insult to them. They most definitely could have solid careers. But, put yourself in the shoes of another team's GM.
You are looking through a list of Rule V Draft eligible players and you spot the name Jason Jones. After making a lousy Daily Show joke, you look up his statistics and scouting reports. You see a 26 year old right-handed starting pitcher with only two career games in Triple-A. You see that he had a nice season in Double-A (3.33 ERA), but was not that great considering his age and the league (1.31 WHIP, 5.51 K/9). Considering the hundreds of other Rule V draft eligible players, are you really going to pick him? Eric Hacker is basically the same exact thing but no Triple-A experience and a slightly better season.
Edwar Gonzalez is just not that good. Is 20 homers for a 25 year old in High-A and Double-A that remarkable? Especially for a corner outfielder with an awful OBP (career .307).
