Not an amazing week. The Yankees won a bunch of meaningless games but they get eliminated; Yankee stadium closes; and now, Mariano Rivera is likely going to have surgery.
***According to various sources, Mariano Rivera is likely going to have surgery that will "remove bone spurs from his shoulder." It isn't likely to affect next season though.
***Andy Pettitte is going to have a second MRI on his shoulder. Shocker. He's hurt. Who would have thought? Honestly, I would only think about re-signing him only if he has a shoulder injury. Putting up his season numbers with a bad shoulder is impressive, but healthy - not so much.
***Hideki Matsui had season ending knee surgery on Monday.
***Phil Hughes had his best career start: 8IP 2ER 0BB 6K
***Juan Miranda picked up his first Major League hit; he is 2-6 with 2 walks and a double in his two professional games. Francisco Cervelli is 0-3 in two games.
***Humberto Sanchez has given up one run in his two pro innings. His first game was a perfect inning. His second, he gave up a hit and two walks. Phil Coke has yet to give up a run in 11.2 innings (10 games). He has only allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out ten.
