Yankees Add A Big Fat Pitcher!!! (And a Twelve-Fingered One Too!)

Too bad it isn't this fellow:

They add this one:

That's right ladies and gents, the Yankees have signed Sidney Ponson to a minor league deal. He will be going down to Scranton and taking a spot in the rotation - presumably Jeff Karsten's. Ponson was released from Texas this season after a confrontation at a hotel bar and an argument with the team because he didn't want his start to be pushed back. He put up an extremely lucky 3.88 ERA with Texas, accumulating a 4-1 record. He allowed a 1.56 WHIP, and allowed over 11 H/9. He also gave up 12 unearned runs which saved his ERA. Hopefully the Yankees won't see him at all in the bigs this season, but you never know...They have a double-header with the Mets on the 27th.

Also, the Yankees claimed twelve-fingered reliever Oneli Perez off waivers from the Cleveland Indians. Perez was picked up after the Indians designated him for assignment, after he was claimed from the White Sox earlier this year. He was destroyed by AAA hitters this season, accumulating an ERA in the high 8s. This is after climbing through the White Sox's system an having a 2.10 ERA, 10.40 K/9, 1.06 WHIP, and a 2.39 BB/9. In conclusion, I really like this move. He was assigned to the Trenton Thunder (AA).

To make room for Perez, Jon Albaladejo was transferred to the 60 day DL.
