It's Johnny Damon's World, And The NL Just Plain Sucks

Sorry for the stupidity of the title, but it's just funny to see the Yankees just absolutely destroy these National League teams. Maybe perhaps it isn't the National Leagues inability to perform against the American League at all. Maybe, just maybe, the Yankees are in fact, good. On the same day that the Yankees signed one angry Aruban, the Yankees offense came to play once again, beating one of the game's best pitchers, Jake Peavy. Did you know that Sidney Ponson is a knight? Apparently Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (Aruba is part of it) knighted him, Eugene Kingsale, and Calvin Maduro. Apparently Scott Seabol was too busy that day. In honor of this fact, Sidney Ponson shall be known on this blog as "Sir Oleo."

(A much better choice for knighthood)

Now on to a relevant topic, although I do not apologize for my digressions. Darrell "D-Raz" Rasner took the mound tonight coming off of his worst start of the season. He clearly was not on top of his game, but the Padres were only able to capitalize two runs off of him in the top of the 3rd. Rasner, who barely walks anyone, allowed an uncharacteristic five walks in five innings. He only gave up three hits which allowed him to limit the damage.

The bullpen wasn't as dominant as it has been as of late. Edwar Ramirez came in an got the first five batters he face out, but gave up back to back homeruns to Brian Giles and Adrian Gonzalez, before striking out Tony Clark. Then Kyle Farnsworth gave up a solo homer to Chase Headley, his first one, in the eight inning, followed by Mariano Rivera who easily collected his 19th save of the season.

Tonight's offensive performers were Johnny Damon, Alex Rodriguez, and Wilson Betemit, who all collected three hits. Rodriguez collected his 14th homerun of the season and his up to .337, while Betemit doubled twice. Damon, by the way, is up to .332.

The Yankees picked up eight runs, and a lot of them seemed to be at the expense of San Diego catcher Luke Carlin. The Yankees ran a lot on him, going 4-5 stealing.

Tomorrow is going to be an afternoon game, with Joba Chamberlain taking the mound against Josh Banks.
